FDSH Large Group Speech performs at state

Earns eleven I ratings

On Feb. 6, members of the Fort Dodge Senior High speech team participated in the Iowa High School Speech Association State Large Group Speech Contest. They performed the 14 acts that qualified for state through the district competition last month. Thirteen of the acts received Division I ratings (11 with straight I ratings) with four selected for All State and one group received a Division II rating.

Division I ratings (*indicates All-State, + indicates a straight I rating)

• Varsity Choral Reading — The Lorax, Isabel Beekman, Nathan Beekman, Brayden Schmieder, Hannah Brummond and Dominic Berry +

• Junior Varsity Choral Reading — Twas the Night Before Contest, Sol Birkey, Logan Hamilton, Michael Wagner, Lilly Johnson and Josie Novencido +

• Varsity Readers Theater — Demeter and Persephone, Brayden Schmieder, Dominic Berry, Dennis Morgan, Anna Marxen and Britta McCollum

• Varsity One Act Play — Crimes of the Heart, Isabel Beekman, Grace Casciato, Moira Buie and Sydney Gebers +

• Musical Theater — Cell Block Tango, Sawyer Springer, Bo Tracy, Grant Harrison, Joey Kelley, Cole Hamlow, Matt Anderson and Aaron Amhof * +

• Musical Theater — Sweet Charity, Gracie Miller, Maddy Vinchattle, Reagan Black, Malaney Butrick, Victoria Pavik and Dallas Richardson +

• Junior Varsity Short Film — Train Your Brain, Logan Hamilton and Josie Novencido +

• Varsity Short Film — 3:10 to Showtime, Ash Wacholtz, Moira Buie, Mikael Campbell, Dennis Morgan and Valeria Cazares

• Solo Mime — Moving On, Josh Meier * +

• Ensemble Acting — The Glass Menagerie, Josh Meier and Gracie Miller +

• Varsity Improv — Jacob Marxen, Nathan Beekman and Mikael Campbell * +

• Junior Varsity Improv — Sol Birkey and Lilly Johnson * +

Division II Ratings

• Ensemble Acting — The Scent of Honeysuckle, Britta McCollum, Victoria Pavik, and Malaney Butrick

“I am very proud of all our students who performed. The team had an outstanding day at state,” said Lindey Krug, speech coach. “We are thrilled to have four groups representing Senior High at All State. It is such an honor for the kids to be chosen.”
