Carr, Hanna, Weflen receive Sunshine Award

Jessica Carr, a social worker in the Emergency Department; Alison Hanna, manager of Volunteer & Guest Services, and Cindy Weflen, experience specialist at UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine — Buena Vista, received the Sunshine Award at UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge.

The award recognizes non-nursing team members who rise above expectations to brighten the day of patients or team members through their brilliant exemplary service.

Carr was nominated by Ashley Edler, manager, and Katie Andrews, RN supervisor/trauma coordinator in the Emergency Department. They wrote, “Jessica is truly an advocate for her patients — listening without judgment, supporting them through difficult moments, and ensuring their needs are met with dignity and respect. Her ability to build trust, navigate complex situations, and collaborate with the care team makes a remarkable difference in the lives of the individuals she serves.”

Hanna was nominated by Tammy Koch, administrative assistant, in Volunteer & Guest Services, who shared, “With the many responsibilities she has, Alison has an open-door policy. If, or when, I need her, she is there with a big smile on her face ready to give guidance. The compassion she has toward patients, visitors and team members does not go unnoticed.”

Weflen was nominated by a patient, who shared, “From the moment I walk in, Cindy truly makes me feel seen, welcomed and cared for. She has an incredible way of calming my nerves before every appointment — offering reassurance, patience and compassion when I need it most. She makes us feel valued, special and supported, and her compassion leaves a lasting impression long after the appointment is over.”
