Five CCU Nurses Receive A.C.E. Award
Five Critical Care Unit nurses received the A.C.E. Award at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Angelica Ewing, Mallory Nelson, Sam Powell, Kaylee VanVoorst and Alyssa Wiemers were nominated for the A.C.E. award by Kathy Denklau, a registered nurse in Acute Care.
The A.C.E. Award stands for Always Committed to Excellence and recognizes individuals for one specific, exemplary action.
“I really appreciate and give kudos to the CCU team for coming up after their shift to help do assessments and pass medications for Acute Care on a Friday night,” said Denklau. “I cannot tell you how much of a difference it made in the morale, and just made the night more manageable. It was support for their fellow teammates, even when they do not work side by side every day.”
The five team members worked an entire shift in the CCU, and then worked in Acute Care — some until 9 p.m., some until 2 a.m.
“It wasn’t their unit. It wasn’t their direct teammates. It wasn’t an ask. It was just compassion, kindness and teamwork,” said Denklau. “It was a commitment to care for patients no matter where they are located at Trinity. They exemplify ‘Always Committed to Excellence’.”
The A.C.E. Award is handed out to team members who go above and beyond the expectations of their job, and make a difference to patients, their families or team members.
