HUMBOLDT ­– Nate Samp and his fiance, Nicole Fusco, are business partners aiming to offer a slightly different take on real estate services with their new company Home & Homestead.

Samp, an Algona native, grew up in the construction and remodeling industry, partnering with his dad and forming Samp Construction in 2014, the same year he first acquired his real estate license. Samp mostly used his license to buy and sell his own improvement properties, and as his dad neared retirement he was ready to switch gears and focus on the real estate side of his work.

In the spring of 2021, Nate Samp finalized his required coursework and started his own brokerage under his contracting company. He and Fusco decided to work together and combine the construction and real estate business into one with a new name: Home & Homestead Realty & Development Co., or Home & Homestead for short. While Samp will continue to run and grow the business, Fusco will serve as the marketing and management advisor, all while being a full-time biology instructor at Iowa Central Community College, the Humboldt High School dance team coach, and a mom.

Samp hopes to offer an extended level of service with his construction expertise by helping customers interested in buying or selling know what areas of improvement are possible, as well as working closely with them to determine costs vs. value. In addition to regular real estate services, Home & Homestead will also offer custom projects, including newly designed and built homes as well as select remodeling services.

Samp and Fusco currently run the business out of their home, a three-acre homestead just outside of Humboldt. By doing so, the couple hopes to offer higher commissions to the realtor associate partners, with experienced agents starting at an 80/20 percent commission split rather than the more common 50 percent paid to the broker for each transaction. As they grow, Samp aims to put the supporting realtors first, recruiting local agents and leaders to be active in their area. He plans to remain more “hands off” while focusing on the brokerage itself and managing construction projects.
