McSweeny’s School of the Performing Arts would like to welcome Kathy Yoakam as a new instructor.

Yoakam graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts in music education.

She taught elementary band/vocal at Stratford Elementary School and high school band at South Hamilton Middle and High School in Jewell.

Yoakam is retiring from the Humboldt Community School District where she taught fifth-and-sixth grade bands for 22 years.

She participates in Jive for Five Brass Quintet. Yoakam is principal horn in the Fort Dodge Area Symphony and the Karl L. King Band.

She is a member of the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the group Rockestra in Sioux City.
