Police investigate shooting in Loomis Park
Fort Dodge Police are investigating a shooting between two groups Wednesday night at Loomis Park.
Responding to reports of shots fired around 10:15 p.m., officers said they found evidence of the shooting as they examined Loomis Park, in addition to witnesses who heard what may have been shots. A vehicle that was shot at was later discovered near the intersection of 15th Avenue North and North Eighth Street with damage from gunfire.
No one was injured at Loomis Park, though a 17-year-old girl occupying the vehicle during the shooting had minor injuries from breaking glass.
Police said in a statement Thursday morning that initial information indicated a vehicle was fleeing the area as several shots were fired. They now believe that two groups of people were in the park when one group began firing at the other, which was driving away.
“We believe this is an isolated incident among those involved and have no information indicating any relation to the homicide investigation currently taking place,” said Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, public information officer, in a press release, referring to Tuesday’s double homicide in the 900 block of 10th Avenue Southwest.
Police encourage anyone with information to come forward.
