Messenger donates to Honor Flight

Ron Newsum, president of the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight, and Jean Warg, classified advertising manager of The Messenger, give an “elbow bump” for The Messenger’s $1,200 donation to the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight. Proceeds came from the Messenger’s annual Veterans Day section. The donation will pay the cost of sending two veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to see the nation’s war memorials. The 2021 Honor Flights are tentatively scheduled for May 8 and Aug. 28. Newsum said veterans who were set to go on the May 2020 flight that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be on the first 2021 flight. During the past 11 years, the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight has taken about 3,000 veterans to Washington, D.C. ”I really appreciate the support The Messenger has given us these last 11 years,” Newsum said.
