Children from around the Fort Dodge area have a chance to experience water color art at its finest courtesy of the Blanden Memorial Art Museum.
According to Art Educator and Assistant Director Angela Ayala, a watercolor workshop is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. March 21 at the museum’s education center, 224 S. Eighth St. Cost is $10.
The program is geared towards 4-H members who are wanting more opportunities for their 2026 county fair exhibits.
“This will be a very immersive event,” she said. “We aren’t looking at the old style cake palette with a bit of water and a brush. We’ll be working with different materials including rubbing alcohol, iodine salt, masking fluid and oil pastel resist.”
“We want attendees to get as many avenues of creation as possible,” she added.

Registration is being taken at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/4-h-online by clicking on the 4-H online button. The class is expected to be capped at 15 participants with nearly half of those spaces already claimed.
“This is a new partnership with the Fort Dodge ISU Extension office,” Ayala said. “I think it will be a very popular one.”
“We’re already hosting several different watercolor classes at the Blanden,” she added. “We have a fruit and floral event open for adults and will be hosting a fair readiness art camp for kids in 4-H to work on their art exhibits before the fair in June. They’ll be able to speak with judges beforehand and show off their projects in order to be ready.”
Ayala noted that interested individuals of all ages should check out www.blanden.org for a variety of art learning opportunities.
