FDPL Children’s Department to hold Summer Adventures

Fort Dodge Public Library Children’s Department will be holding Summer Adventures throughout June and July. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, these free, fun, and educational programs start at 10 a.m. Most adventures last approximately 45 minutes and are held in the library’s main space, unless otherwise noted. Children attending an Adventure must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday — Laser Show: Discover the excitement of chemical reactions and see a high-powered laser in action with Absolute Science.

Join us in the Library’s main space at 10 a.m. on Tuesday for a Laser Show with Absolute Science. Their expert scientist will showcase how heat can produce sound, experiment with ink in messy and fun ways, safely handle highly flammable powder and even crate an indoor soda explosion. You’ll also see the power of their high-powered laser in action. Adventures are sponsored by the Friends of the Library and are free of charge. All children attending must be accompanied by an adult. June 17 — Butterfly Encounter Tents: Experience butterflies up close in tents and at interactive educational tables.

June 24, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. — Bubble Stations on the Square: a special bubble solution and wands of many shapes and sizes for everyone to use to create fantastic bubbles.

June 25 — Dino O’Dell: Come listen to funny songs and stories about Planet Earth and the unique cultures and geography of all seven continents.

July 1 — Webster County Conservation: Join us for all things bugs and insects.

July 8 — Bigger Bang Bubbles: Absolute Science will dazzle us with fire, bubble fog, and a nearly perfect cube bubble while taking ordinary bubbles to the extreme.

July 15 — Mikayla Oz, Magician: Mikayla and her incredible assistant Bubbles the Bird will amaze and entertain with magic, music, and fun.

July 22, 10 a.m. to12 p.m. — Bubble Stations on the Square: the special bubble solution and wands will be back for a second time this summer.

July 29, 10 to 11:30 a.m. — Spock’s Sanctuary: the Des Moines-based rescue will introduce us to some reptile and amphibian friends at a come and go event.
