Musical variety to be featured in Humboldt Community Chorus shows

HUMBOLDT – There may not be many chances for music lovers to hear a big band, songs of The Beatles and inspiring gospel classics all in one concert.

The upcoming Humboldt Community Chorus concerts will provide all of that, plus some patriotic songs and a little comedy mixed in throughout the show.

“We try to have something for everybody,” said Barb Nelson, a spokeswoman for the chorus.“We try to have a good variety.”

Those who come to the concerts will not be disappointed, she predicted.

“It’s high energy, lots of entertainment,” she said.

“Music – A Timeless Treasure” is the theme of the upcoming shows.

The concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 9, 2 p.m. Feb. 10 and 2 p.m. Feb. 11.

All the concerts will be in the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium at Humboldt High School.

The Humboldt Community Chorus consists of about 50 singers under the direction of Terry Nelson.

Those singers are joined by a 20-piece big band under the direction of Rollie Jensen.

Barb Nelson said preparations for the concerts began last summer, when group members began picking out music. Rehearsals began in October.
