HUMBOLDT – A lifelong love of ponies combined with an abundance of pumpkins to create an event that has become a fall tradition.

Called Pumpkins and Ponies, it will be held for the 18th year on Oct. 14-15.

Those who go to Springvale Farm at 2603 Lone Tree Road in Humboldt County will see dancing horses, antique tractors, and a petting zoo. And they will be able to take a wagon ride over to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin that perhaps may become a jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

Admission is free.

“This is a harvest of smiles,” said Lonnie Larson, co-owner of Springvale Farm and organizer of the event.

While it is named Pumpkins and Ponies, there is a lot more to the event, she said.

“There should be something fun for everyone,” she said.

“We just want folks to come and have a good time,” she added.

She said she and her husband, Bob, along with their “wonderful army of volunteers,” try to add something new and different to the event each year. This year, that new and different event will be rides in a covered wagon pulled by a tractor.

Returning this year will be Dragonfire Dancing Horses, of Hampton. Trick riding and showmanship are the trademarks of this equine entertainment group.
