Josh Turner to headline Downtown Country Jam
Jesse Wilson & Friends, Renegade Soul to take the stage
The deep voice of Josh Turner will reverberate through the heart of Fort Dodge when he takes the stage for the Sept. 16 Downtown Country Jam.
Turner, the singer best known for hits like “Long Black Train” and “All About You,” will be the headliner for the outdoor country music show to be held at the intersection of Central Avenue and Ninth Street.
“He’s going to put on a performance,” said Melissa Hansen, a member of the board of Shellabration Inc., which organized the concert. “He’s going to be all over the stage and have the crowd involved.”
Jim Reed, the president of Shellabration Inc., said Turner has had seven Top 10 hits, which is more than any other performer who has been on stage for the Downtown Country Jam.
“His set is radio-hits laden,” Reed said.
Two local bands, Jesse Wilson & Friends and Renegade Soul, will also perform.
“We’re pretty good at picking a lineup and this one not only dovetails, but builds to a crescendo,” Reed said.
“It’s cool to be able to give local artists the big stage so they can see a crowd of 3,000 plus,” he added.
Shellabration Inc. is hoping for a crowd of at least 4,000 at this year’s Downtown Country Jam. Last year, when Big and Rich performed, there was a crowd of 3,851, which is the record so far.
“We would love to get to 4,000 people,” Reed said.
