FDPL Brown Bag Briefings begin Thursday
Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is holding Brown Bag Briefings from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays during April. The briefings will be held in the large meeting room at the library.
Master Gardener and Fort Dodge area gardener Doug Brightman will speak on Thursday. After retiring in 2010 from the Fort Dodge Community Schools, Brightman cultivated his lifelong interest and became a Master Gardener. He has accumulated over 1,100 Master Gardener hours volunteering at the Iowa Arboretum and most recently at the Webster County Growing Together Donation Garden. Come and hear about this project and also get answers to all your gardening questions.
On April 13, Brown Bag Briefings will welcome Matt Drees, music/executive director of the Fort Dodge Senior High spring musical Les Miserables and several members of the cast and crew. Les Miserables is his ninth Senior High musical. There are 75 plus members of this musical including cast, orchestra and backstage crew. Several of these students will perform songs and numbers from the musical.
On April 20, Bill McAnally will speak on energy efficiency and best practices in building. McAnally has over 50 years experience in the construction industry. In addition to being a building contractor for over 15 years, he also was a carpentry instructor for 17 years at Iowa Central Community College. He is currently a consultant and provides educational training in the building trades. He also appears monthly on Iowa Public Radio’s “Talk of Iowa-Home Improvement Day.” He hopes the audience comes full of questions about home improvement.
Megan Secor, marketing coordinator and part-owner of Soldier Creek Winery, will be the speaker on April 27. She will be talking about new developments in the vineyard and in the winery, as well as all the events you can attend at Soldier Creek Winery. Secor is a horticulturist at heart but loves the daily dose of creativity she gets from her position at the winery. She hopes you save the date for her Brown Bag Briefing.
As usual, everyone is welcome to bring their lunch. There will be complimentary water, coffee and cookies available.
