Manson Meridian Singers welcome new season, new director

Andrea Christians

MANSON — The Manson Meridian Singers are ushering in a new season with a new director – and invite all new and returning members to join them for a fun year of making music together.

Andrea Christians, of Pocahontas, will be leading the group through its 51st season, with Trish Mernka, of Rockwell City, continuing as accompanist.

Christians is a Luther College graduate with a master’s degree in music education from the University of Northern Iowa. She has taught music for 24 years and is currently the 7-12 principal at Pocahontas Area Community Schools. She and her husband Clint have four children: Cale, Cooper, Caroline and Caitlyn.

“I am excited to lead this group of talented singers who have become our friends as we have sung with them for the last couple years,” said Christians.

Christians says this year’s production will feature an upbeat and fun look at love with lots of musical variety.

Rehearsals for the upcoming season will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Manson Northwest Webster High School band room, and are open to anyone who loves to sing. The group includes members from Manson and several surrounding communities, including Fort Dodge, Rockwell City, Pocahontas and more.

Most rehearsals will be on Thursdays, but will occasionally vary. Rehearsals will run from 7 to 9 p.m. A complete schedule will be available at the first rehearsal.

This year’s shows are set for Saturday, Feb. 11, and Sunday, Feb. 12, in the Manson Northwest Webster Kate Toben Auditorium.
