Sounds of the Season

Iowa Central to present winter concert

The Iowa Central Vocal and Instrumental department is excited to be back on the stage of the Decker Auditorium to celebrate the Sounds of the Season.

The concert will be held December 9-10 at 7 p.m. and will feature the Iowa Central Concert Band, Triton Singers, Jazz Combo, Encore Singers, Triton Kids, Pop Voices, Vocal Jazz, soloists, guest musicians and more. Following the Thursday evening performance the audience is invited to join Dr. Jesse Ulrich and performers in our annual president’s reception with holiday treats.

Plan to arrive early and enjoy the art gallery featuring the Visual Arts department. We would like to extend our invitation to essential workers and first responders as we’d love to honor them during a special moment in our concerts.

Admission is free.

According to Paul Bloomquist, director of instrumental music, there will be a variety of styles on display. Jack Hannon will be featured on the trombone playing a traditional concerto with band accompaniment. Karl King is on the program with one of his graceful aerial waltzes called “Mystic Night.”

A celebration fanfare from the “Robin Hood” movie starring Kevin Costner will honor one of our own Iowa Central faculty members.

A non-typical Leroy Anderson composition that includes a horse and whip, but is NOT “Sleigh Ride.” Come out to hear “The Horse and Buggy.”

The jazz band will feature many soloists on both traditional and non-traditional holiday tunes.
