Fort Dodge Choral Society opens new season

Concert on Oct. 27 has theme of ‘The Sounds of Silence’

Fort Dodge Choral Society will present “The Sounds of Silence” at 3 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 838 N. 25th St. For the opening concert of the new season, conductor Bruce Perry has selected music that focuses on times of silence in daily lives.

“During times when the world noise around us gets louder and louder, it is good to stop and listen. Silence gives people time to recharge and face problems with renewed energy,” Perry said. “This concert is filled with beautiful music that will allow time for reflection, inspiration, and imagination.”

Works on the program include Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sounds of Silence,” three settings of “Silent Noon,” Perry’s original arrangement of “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent,” and a sampling of Gilbert and Sullivan. Pianist Jeanette Hinkeldey will be prominently featured throughout the performance.

Fort Dodge Choral Society unites singers from Fort Dodge and surrounding counties to bring great vocal works to life. The choir is one of the oldest community groups in Iowa dedicated to the performance of great choral works.

Admission to the concert is by season membership or available at the door. Ticket cost is $10 with all students admitted free of charge. For more information, visit www.fdchoralsociety.org.
