Days of fun in Gilmore City

Weekend event Aug. 23-25

GILMORE CITY — When the city of Gilmore decides to have some fun, it’s not just for a day.

The annual Gilmore City Fun Days 2019 is on Aug. 23, 24 and 25.

Chris McKee, Gilmore City city clerk said she’s excited about this year’s. She said that among the highlights, there’s a photo scavenger hunt, tractor rides, bean bag tournament, kids crafts and bounce house, a parade, karaoke and midnight breakfast.

There’s also another big thing.

“The food,” she said. “And lots of it.”

Friday, Aug. 23, kicks off the weekend.

There’s Philly steak or chicken sandwiches at the Limestone Lounge starting at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The photo scavenger hunt is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting at the fire station. Karaoke, for children and adults, starts at 7 p.m. and will continue until 1 a.m.

The midnight breakfast at the Limestone Lounge is from 12:01 a.m. until it’s done.

Saturday, Aug. 24, is a full day of activities.

Registration for the 5K run/walk starts at 8 a.m. with the event starting at 8:30 a.m. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. with lineup beginning at 9:30 a.m. There’s a cafe lunch at the fire station from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. featuring beef burgers and chicken salad sandwiches at the Limestone lounge from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m

Bag tournaments signup start at 11:30 south of the bank. Games start at 12:30 p.m. For anyone still hungry after lunch, there’s a watermelon feed in the city park from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. Beaver Creek will entertain at the Limestone Lounge starting at 2 p.m. and a smoke pork butt sandwich dinner will be served there as well from 5 to 8 p.m.

From 2 to 5 p.m., children can battle each other at the water barrel fights in front of the fire station. FarmRock will entertain from 8 p.m until midnight on the main stage and following their show, midnight breakfast will again be offered at the Limestone Lounge.

Throughout the day, there will be city wide garage sales, kids crafts at the library and other activities in the park.

Things slow down a little on Sunday, Aug. 25.

A tractor meet kicks off the day at 8:30 a.m. on Main Street by the fire station. The firemen’s omelet breakfast at the fire station, which includes a gun raffle, starts at 9 a.m. and will run until 1 p.m. At 9 a.m. the tractors leave for a ride to the Weigert Farm near Palmer and several other stops.

At 10:30 a.m. there’s a cowboy church service at the Gazebo — attendees are reminded to bring their own chairs.
