YWCA Silver Showcase is Saturday

Annual fundraiser benefits women

The YWCA’s annual fundraiser to benefit area women in need is Saturday.

The Silver Showcase will be at Willow Ridge Golf Course & Restaurant, 1788 Madison Ave.

Doors open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $20. Appetizers and drinks will be served.

The YWCA is a nonprofit organization that serves as a shelter for homeless women.

“We are called the center for life’s empowerment,” Mandi Crouse Kelley,YWCA executive director, said. “We work with women and women with children who have substance abuse issues to help them through their recover and to gain stability in their lives. We try to empower them to be self-sufficient.”

Money raised from the event will be used to support the women YWCA serves.

“The money goes directly to the women at the Y,” Crouse Kelley said. “In the past it’s been used for things like holiday parties or some of the extras that Medicaid funding for their treatment does not cover.”

Bicycles, clothing items and renovations to the YWCA are other examples, according to Crouse Kelley.

At the Showcase, a silent auction will begin at 6 p.m.

A live auction will start at 7:30 p.m.

A remote start from Troy Waller Auto Body, a $500 scholarship to Iowa Central Community College, and tickets to an Iowa Wild game are among the items that will be auctioned off.

Live music from the jazz duo Gabriel Alves and Kelly Weber will be featured during the Showcase.

Multiple speakers will be on hand to tell their stories on how YWCA impacted their lives.

Tickets can be purchased at the YWCA, from any board member or at the door.
