Classes offered to learn baking, weaving, jewelry
WEBSTER CITY – The nonprofit organization Legacy Learning Boone River Valley has scheduled several events during the month of March.
A discussion on the history of fishing lures will be presented by George Caggiano at 6:30 p.m. March 9 at the Kendall Young Library, 1201 Wilson Ave. Admission is free. Caggiano is a retired educator and avid fisherman.
A jewelry making class will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 16-17 at the Iowa Central Community College campus, 1725 Beach St. The course will be in Science room 3. Participants will be able to make a one-strand necklace and matching earrings during the first day and then use found items to make another necklace and earings set the second day. Laurel Mors will teach the course. The cost is $80 for both days or $45 for a single day. A $20 supply cost will also be charged.
A breadmaking class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 17 at the Webster City High School kitchens, 825 Beach St. Participants will learn to bake a four-grain whole wheat bread, as well as learning how to make raspberry jam to put on the bread when it’s done.The cost will be $20 plus a $5 materials fee. The course will be taught by Deb Leksell, long-time baker and retired Hamilton County treasurer.
Inkle loom weaving will be taught from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 21 at the All Cultures Equal building, 1440 East Second St. The course will be taught by Marilyn Anderson who has been spinning, dying and weaving for more than 35 years. Participants will learn basic techniques to make items such as bracelets, headbands, necklaces and camera or guitar straps.

Legacy Learning makes it possible for people to participate in hands-on activities, nature studies and classes of various forms of art. These courses are taught by artists, natural resource professionals and experienced craftspeople.
