Halverson 50th birthday bash and cancer benefit is Sunday

Shane Halverson’s 50th birthday bash and cancer benefit is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rides Bar and Grill Banquet Center, 723 S. 31st St. There will be a freewill donation meal of pork loin, sides and dessert, a silent auction ending at 7:30 p.m. and music. Halverson was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2017 which has returned for a third time as stage 4, including both lungs. Halverson is married with five children. Children’s special events are: Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a Family Foam Party at Kendall Young Library, Webster City. This is a free event for the whole family. Webster County Conservation summer art series continues Tuesday and Thursday

Webster County Conservation continues its summer art series at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center, 20 N. First St. Tuesday’s class is fall watercolors for children of any age. Thursday is adult watercolor. Deidra Miller-Clay, Fort Dodge Senior High art instructor, will lead participants through a variety of art mediums. Cost is $5 per participant. Register online at mycountyparks.com. August community blood drives begin Thursday

Community blood centers, like LifeServe Blood Center, collect approximately 60 percent of the nation’s blood supply. Annually, it takes thousands of generous volunteer donors to support local hospital patients through blood donation.
