KYL adult programs for July

WEBSTER CITY — Kendall Young Library will hold Adult Programs throughout the month of July.

Adult Summer Reading Program — Adults are invited to join in a variety of “Plant a Seed, Read” summer programs. There is a “Summer Bucket List Challenge, Fancy Your Flowerpot Contest, and a variety of events celebrating America 250 throughout the library. Details and resources to participate are available at the Adult Checkout Desk.

Fancy Your Flowerpot — Stop in to vote for your favorite in the “Fancy Your Flowerpot” contest this July. Flowerpots are on display by the checkout desk. Please only one vote per visit per patron. Winners will be announced in August.

Adult Daytime Book Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to join in the July Book Club discussion on “The Quiet Librarian” by Allen Eskens. This book is available at the Adult Checkout if you are interested in participating. We will meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on July 14 to discuss. A book for the August Book Club will be announced at this time.

Adult Evening Book Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to join in the Adult Evening Book Club discussion about “We the Women” by Norah O’Donnell. This book is available at Adult Checkout if you are interested in participating. We will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. on July 8. August Book Club books will be available at this time.

Seniors Share — Join us for a morning at Kendall Young Library as we are hosting a Seniors Share event from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on July 9. Seniors are invited to gather and share a hobby, collection or short story with others. A time limit will be established based on interest. Patrons that would like to participate by listening are also invited.

Author Darcy Maulsby on Iowa Agriculture — Kendall Young Library is hosting author/storyteller Darcy Maulsby as she walks us through her book “Iowa Agriculture: A History of Farming, Family and Food.” The book is a wonderful evolution of Iowa’s agrarian history, delightfully stretching into its prehistorical roots, then quickly bringing us into the 20th and 21st centuries. Her presentation to Kendall Young Library will kick off events at 5:30 p.m. on July 18. This portion of the evening is free and open to all.

Following the program, Friends of Kendall Young Library is hosting a farm to table style dinner on the grounds of the library. This fundraising dinner will be catered by Grid Iron with a special dessert by Mornin’ Glory. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased online or at Kendall Young Library prior to the event.

Adult DIY — Kendall Young Library will be hosting Adult DIY from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on July 28. Patrons can try their hand at the Basics of Lettering. Everything you need will be available to learn the art of calligraphy and other eye-catching text. This event is free and does not require registration. Bring a friend and enjoy the evening out.

SPICE Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to add some spice to your life with the KYL Spice of the Month Club. We will be featuring Cajun seasoning starting on Wednesday. Samples will be available throughout the month while supplies last. This is a fun way to explore different cultures and flavors. Each month there will be a featured herb or spice. A limited number of kits will be available each month with a small sample, information about the spice, and a couple recipes to try.
