KYL adult programs scheduled
WEBSTER CITY — Kendall Young Library will hold adult programs throughout the month of June.
Adult Summer Reading Program — Adults are invited to join in a variety of “Plant a Seed, Read” summer programs. There is a Summer Bucket List Challenge, Fancy Your Flowerpot Contest, and a variety of events celebrating America 250 throughout the library. Details and resources to participate are available at the Adult Checkout Desk.
Fancy Your Flowerpot — Adults are invited to pick up a mini flowerpot to decorate for the “Fancy Your Flowerpot” contest this summer. Choose from the categories: Plant a Seed, Read or America 250. Flowerpots are available at the checkout area beginning Monday through June 10, or as long as supplies are available. Please return your decorated pot prior to July 1 for patrons to vote. Winners will be announced in August.
Adult Daytime Book Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to join for the June Book Club discussion. Each participant chooses a “Blind Date with History” and shares about their book. These books are available at the Adult Checkout if you are interested in participating. We will be meeting from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on June 9 to discuss. A book for the July Book Club will be announced and available at this time.
Adult Evening Book Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to join in the Adult Evening Book Club discussion on the book “Great Big Beautiful Life” by Emily Henry. Books are available at Kendall Young Library. We will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. on June 10 to discuss.
Crafting with Emily Mallory (ages 12 and up) — Join us for an evening of learning the art of the iris folding technique with Emily Mallory from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on June 22 at the library. She will demonstrate the steps to fold garden gnomes. This event is available to patrons ages 12 and up and no registration is required.
All Day Adult Craft-A-Thon — Kendall Young Library will offer a time to stop in, craft and enjoy being creative from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 23.. This adult event will offer crafts including clay bead bracelets, watercolor bookmarks, picture frame makeovers, book bedazzling, pipe cleaner flowers, and the chance to Fancy Your Flowerpot (for the summer contest). Bring a friend and craft on your schedule.
Adult Plant BINGO — Join us to test your luck with Adult Plant BINGO at Kendall Young Library. Patrons can win small plants from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on June 30. This twist on traditional bingo is free and brings fun prizes. Make plans to bring your friends.
SPICE Club — Kendall Young Library invites you to add some spice to your life with the KYL Spice of the Month Club. We will be featuring shichimi togarashi, a Japanese seven-spice blend that adds a complex, spicy, citrusy, and umami flavor to dishes, starting on Friday. Samples will be available throughout the month while supplies last.
This is a fun way to explore different cultures and flavors. Each month there will be a featured herb or spice. A limited number of kits will be available each month with a small sample, information about the spice, and a couple recipes to try.
COMING IN JULY — More summer events will be coming in July. Along with the monthly book clubs and DIY, we will have a morning of Seniors Share from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on July 9. Darcy Maulsby — Iowa Storyteller will have a public presentation at 5:30 p.m. on July 18. There will also be a Farm-to-Table ticketed dinner. The dinner will be a fundraiser hosted by Friends of Kendall Young Library. Watch for details.
