The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is hosting author Betty Brandt Passick, of Oakdale, Minnesota, at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 6. Brandt Passick, who grew up in Fairbank, is the author of the award-winning historical novel, “Gangster in Our Midst, Bookkeeper, Lieutenant, and Sometimes Hitman for Al Capone.” She will present a 60-minute program on this Iowa story. Fairbank has the remarkable claim of hosting Alphonse Capone’s bookkeeper, Louie La Cava, for over 60 years.

The novel is based on research of every aspect of the Italian American’s life through newspaper accounts, FBI and police records, plus interviews with locals who knew the gangster best. The author talk is free and open to the public. Brandt Passick will bring copies of her book to the presentation and will sell and autograph them for those who seek an understanding of this award-winning Iowa story.
