FDPL to celebrate Juneteenth
The Friends of the Fort Dodge Public Library will celebrate Juneteenth at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The event will celebrate Juneteenth, the official end of slavery in America. The day will also honor Mrs. Edna Griffin who was a civil rights pioneer from Des Moines. In 1948, Griffin was denied service because of the color her skin while attempting buy ice cream. The Supreme Court ruled this was discriminatory and Griffin was given service. Juneteenth and ice cream crafts will be available while supplies last. The is no registration or fee but all children must be with an adult.
