Lake View hosts Reel Fun Fishing Tournament

LAKE VIEW — The second annual Reel Fun Fishing Tournament begins at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the Open Shelter House in Town Bay at Black Hawk Lake. Registration is $20 and includes a meal of hot dogs, chips and drink along with a raffle ticket. All fish must be weighed by 2 p.m. Since the tournament takes place on the DNR’s free fishing weekend, no fishing license is required.

Started last year by then 11-year-old Tate Lahr, the pan fish tournament includes perch, bluegill, crappie and catfish. Thanks to generous sponsors including the main event sponsor, Bedrock Gravel, this year’s tournament will have $1,000 in prize money with first place receiving $500, second place $300 and third place $200. There’s also a wide variety of raffle prizes including poles/reels, coolers, tackle boxes, and bait to name a few. This year Tate’s added commemorative shirts that are available for purchase.

With his love for fishing and Black Hawk Lake, Lahr is hoping for a large turnout and the ability to continue this tradition. He will be giving the proceeds from the tournament to the Black Hawk Lake Protective Association to help fund the new handicapped-accessible fish house being built this year in Town Bay.

Registrations can be sent to Tate Lahr, 211 Fourth St., Lake View, IA 51450. All pre-registrants will also receive a bait package.
