Cottonwood cemetery walk is Saturday

LAKE CITY – Cottonwood Cemetery Preservation Association is hosting a cemetery walk from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Come and enjoy an educational walk through time and cannon fire, with the help of the Light Artillery Civil War Reenactment Group of Lake View. Walk with 9 actors portraying Civil War veterans and other notables buried at Cottonwood. Golf carts will be available for those who need them. The cost of the event is a freewill offering.

Cottonwood Cemetery Preservation Association is a 501c.3 non-profit volunteer group formed in 2012 to preserve, beautify, and restore historic Cottonwood Cemetery. Cottwood has been in existence since 1864 with 33 documented Civil War veterans buried there. With the assistance of a matching grant from Calhoun County Community Foundation they are undertaking a 2016 East Fence Replacement Project Block 1 & Block 2. Martin’s Welding of Auburn is doing the work, and was very instrumental in its design. Cottonwood Cemetery is located 2 miles west of Lake City and 1/2 mile south of Iowa Highway 175 (see sign), 3727 Garber Ave.
