Alzheimers workshop set for April 29

The Alzheimer’s Association in Fort Dodge will be hosting a workshop for Alzheimer’s caretakers and the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 29 at the Iowa Central Community College East Campus’ Triton Room; breakfast and lunch will be provided. The workshop’s topics include advanced directives and legal decisions, music therapy and the latest research into what people can do now to decrease their risk of Alzheimer’s later.

Registration is open now at www.alz.org/GreaterIowa and is free for family caregivers or family members. Healthcare professionals who seek Professional Continuing Education Credits will receive 4.8 CEUs for $10.

Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 63,000 Iowans, and that number is expected to grow by over 10,000 by 2025. Already the sixth leading cause of death, nationwide, every 66 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s, which will cost Medicaid $602 million this year alone.
