Halloween activities planned in Sac County

The Sac County Conservation Board will hold its annual Pumpkin Carving Contest at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the shop building at Hagge Park. The SCCB is also preparing for its 27th annual Halloween Night Hike on Oct. 19 at Hagge Park. This year’s theme is Dr. Seuss. Hikes begin at 6 p.m. with the last hike going out at 9 p.m.

Some of the characters on the hike are The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, the Grinch and little Haggies, One Fish, Two Fish. The actresses/actors will perform short skits which pertain to pollution, recycling and wise use of natural resources. The hike will last approximately 1 hour and is 1 mile in length in wooded terrain.

Popular hike times fill up quickly. To make reservations, for information, or to volunteer, call the board at (712) 662-4530. The hikes are not designed to be scary but fun and informational.
