Mattke — 90th birthday

Allan Mattke

SUMNER — Allan Mattke, of Sumner, will celebrate his 90th birthday with an open house from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Sumner American Legion Hall in Sumner.

His family includes his wife Wilma, Steve and Diane Mattke, Jeff and Belinda Mattke, and Mike and Paige Mattke. He has seven grandchildren. His first wife Sharon is deceased.

He was born February 17, 1934 in Fredericksburg. He graduated from Fredericksberg High School. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He is a graduate of Iowa State University. He taught woodworking / shop at various high schools after graduation from ISU. He owned and operated Haden Mattke Hardware over 10 years in Panora. In 1975, he started the Carpentry Program at Iowa Central Community College, retiring in 1992. During his tenure at ICCC he instructed students overseeing the building of approximately 22 single-family homes along with multiple special projects around the community.
