Gary and Karma Nelson, of Fort Dodge, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Their family includes Dave and Fonda Nelson, of Fort Dodge; Dr. Angila Moffitt, of Orange City; and Andrew and April Lewis, of Loveland, Colorado. They have 11 grandchildren.

Gary and Karma were married on Aug. 24, 1973, at the Fort Des Moines Open Bible Church. Immediately following, they moved to Fort Dodge to start farming together, what now is Nelson Family Farm. They met in Minnesota on a fishing trip. Their first date was to the Iowa State Fair and they haven’t missed a State Fair since. This year’s Iowa State Fair marks their 51st date to the Iowa State Fair.
