Foster — 90th birthday

WEBSTER CITY — John (Jack) Foster, of Webster City, celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday.

Jack was born on Sept. 17, 1931, in Randall and raised in Webster City until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a lieutenant commander after 20 years of service. He then went on to a second career in teaching elementary children for 10 years. In 1983, Jack and his wife Beverly, moved back to Webster City where he opened Valley Gunsmithing. He retired from his business in 2004. He was an active member of the Webster City community where he held many public service positions, including city councilman. He received the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 1990 for outstanding service to the State of Iowa.
