Ruth Elaine Sandeen

GOWRIE — Ruth Elaine Sandeen, of Gowrie, is celebrating her 90th birthday on May 1.

Her family includes Steve and Jackie Sandeen, of Paton; and Dean Downer, of Massena. Her husband Howard and daughter Kathy Downer are deceased.

Ruth Swanson was born on May 1, 1931, in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Harcourt High School, the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University. She married Howard Sandeen in Harcourt in 1952. She taught elementary school at Dayton and Callender for 33 years. The couple farmed in the Callender and Paton areas.
