ROLFE — Corliss Poppen, of Rolfe, will celebrate his 85th birthday on Sunday.

His family includes his wife, Shirley; Debi and John Maxa, of Chaska, Minnesota; Mike and Joan Poppen, of Elk River, Minnesota; Steve and Jean Poppen, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; and Lauri and Tom Smith, of Rolfe. He has 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Poppen was born on Nov. 1, 1935, on a farm near Palmer. He and his wife both graduated from Manson High School in 1954 and were married on Aug. 1, 1954. He spent most of his adult life in the construction business.
