Roland Harklau

SAC CITY — Roland Harklau, of Sac City, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Wednesday.

His family includes David and Darla Harklau, of Topeka, Kansas, and Denise and Dan O’Mara, of Ames. He has three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Carol, is deceased.

Harklau was born Oct. 28, 1930, in rural Calhoun County and graduated from Somers High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950, serving during the Korean War and served one year in Korea. He was married on June 19, 1955. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Iowa State Teachers College and a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota. He retired from teaching and coaching in 1992.
