DES MOINES — Blue skies and calm weather greeted athletes and fans at Friday’s running of the 116th Drake Relays less than 24 hours after thunderstorms forced events to be moved up a day earlier. Those competing on the blue oval took advantage, including the Algona boys track and field team. After qualifying in several events, the Bulldogs locked up a pair of Top-3 finishes in two of those, as Max Nevitt finished third in the shot put and the sprint medley relay did the same. DES MOINES — With thunderstorms and rain headed for Drake Stadium, officials at the 116th running of the Drake Relays adjusted the schedule for Thursday’s action. One high school event, the boys discus, was moved to Saturday morning. Several competitions did take place, with a handful of area and Iowa Central athletes faring well. Triton standouts Abbigail Hutchinson and Chakib Cherkaoui Rhazouani competed in open distance events and placed in the Top-5.
