Freedom Pointe Easter celebration is Saturday
Freedom Pointe, 1303 A. St., will hold an Easter celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be an egg hunt, games, prizes, snacks and Easter Bunny visit.
Moose Lodge Egg Hunt is Saturday
Moose Lodge 806 will hold its annual Easter egg hunt at noon Saturday at Dodger Stadium, 1930 Elmhurst Ave. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Cost is 50 cents per child. Prizes will be awarded after the hunt. Rain date is April 26.

Fish kill reported in Lizard Creek
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fish kill in the South Branch of Lizard Creek in Webster County. On Monday, the DNR Field Office in Mason City received a call from CJ Bio America regarding a leak at their facility in the ag industrial park west of Fort Dodge called Iowa’s Crossroads of Global Innovation. A fertilizer byproduct created in the process of making the amino acid lysine had emptied into a stormwater channel on the east side of the plant. New officer joins FD Police Department
Mitch Leyk is the newest member of the Fort Dodge Police Department. Leyk, who was introduced to the City Council Monday, is a native of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Hamline University, in St. Paul, Minnesota. While in college, he completed an internship with the New Mexico State Patrol. He also worked summers doing water patrol for a county sheriff’s office. He most recently worked as a corporate investigator for an insurance company. Leyk will begin training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy next month.
Firefighters combat grass blazes
Four grass fires ignited in different places across Webster County Friday afternoon and evening. The first was reported at 2:39 p.m. on Nelson Avenue, near a curve in the road north of its interchange with U.S. Highway 20. “It spread quite a bit and spread down into the timber,” Otho Fire Chief Marty Smith said. “We got it stopped eventually.” He said the fire burned a small portion of a hoop barn and a junk vehicle parked outside.
