Ex-Eagle Grove standout Kiley now a UNC assistant
GREELEY, Colo. — Former Eagle Grove standout Garett Kiley has a new home.
Kiley was hired by Northern Colorado as an assistant wrestling coach recently, joining Troy Nickerson’s staff.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” Kiley said. “I’m looking forward to working with some familiar faces and rejoining the Big 12 Conference. Coach Nickerson is a highly respected coach and runs a program the right way. I look forward to helping him continue to build up the program and climb the national ranks.”
Kiley, who graduated from Simpson in 2008 and earned his Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine in 2013, previously coached at Campbell.
Last year, Kiley helped lead Campbell to its first-ever Southern Conference championship, with seven wrestlers qualifying for the NCAA Championships with him on staff.
Kiley also was an assistant coach at Concordia and Wayland Baptist, along with the director of operations for Iowa State wrestling and the Cyclone Wrestling Club when both Nickerson and fellow assistant Michael Moreno were in Ames.
Nickerson was an assistant for the Cyclones from 2012-14 before taking over at Northern Colorado, while Moreno graduated from ISU in 2014 after going 91-37 on the mat.
The Bears are members of the Big 12 Conference, earning their first league win last year with a victory over Iowa State. They are also coming off their highest finish at the NCAAs since returning to Div. I.
