LYTTON -- An Ankeny man died in a rollover accident Monday afternoon in Calhoun County after investigators said another driver tried to change lanes.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as Arthur Newberry, 83, of Ankeny.

Newberry was eastbound on U.S. Highway 20 near Granite Avenue, which is just outside of Lytton, according to the Iowa State Patrol's accident report. He was driving a 2011 Ford sport utility vehicle.

Traveling behind him was Forrest Fromm, 24, of West Des Moines, in a 2019 Dodge van.

The accident report stated that Fromm looked over his shoulder to check and see if the road was clear before he changed lanes. When that happened, the State Patrol reported that Fromm crashed into the back of Newberry's SUV.

This caused Newberry's vehicle to go into the south shoulder and roll serveral times.

Newberry was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Fromm's vehicle stopped on the north shoulder to the east of Newberry's vehicle.

Newberry was not wearing a seat belt, according to the accident report.

The Iowa State Patrol was notified of the accident at 4:01 p.m.

No citations have been issued, but the Iowa State Patrol said the accident is still under investigation.

They were assisted on scene by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department, Rockwell City Fire Department and Lytton Fire Department.
