Man charged after splashing U.S. Rep. King with water

A Colorado man has been charged after allegedly throwing a glass of water on U.S. Rep. Steve King, R- Kiron, while King was out to lunch Friday afternoon, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.

According to police, King was having lunch with a group of people at Mineral City Mill & Grill, 2621 Fifth Ave. S.

At one point, Blake Gibbins, 26, of Lafayette, Colorado, approached King's table and asked about his identity, police reported.

Gibbins then threw a glass of water on King, splashing the congressman and others sitting at the table, according to police.

Burlyn Pecoy, of Fort Dodge, was sitting at the table and was also apparently hit with water.

No injuries were reported.

The incident was reported to police at about 12:30 p.m.

According to police, it's believed King was targeted because of his position as a U.S. representative.

Gibbins is charged with two counts of simple assault, a simple misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor, police reported.

He was transported to Webster County Jail. Gibbins was later released on bail.
