Eagle Grove hires new police officer

EAGLE GROVE — A new police officer will be joining the ranks of the Eagle Grove Police Department.

Aaron Carda, a native of Ogilvie, Minnesota, was sworn in as an Eagle Grove police officer at the City Council meeting Monday night.

Carda currently works as corrections officer at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.

He’s held that position since October 2016.

Carda said he has always wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement.

“It was either going to be police or DNR,” Carda said. “And the police came around, so that’s what I took.”

He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Winona State University in Minnesota.

Including Carda, the Eagle Grove Police Department will have eight full-time officers and one reserve officer.

“We used to be a seven-man department and now we are up to eight,” Garrett Quintus, Eagle Grove police captain, said.

Carda will attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston to become a certified officer, Quintus said.

Once he completes that training, Carda will work the day shift, according to Quintus.
