For most visitors to the Fort Museum and Frontier Village, leaving is easy once they've toured the exhibits.
They just have to open the door.
For participants in the Escape Room event tonight and Saturday, leaving is anything but easy.
Misty Mackay, with the Fort Museum, said there are two rooms to escape from: one scary one and one not so scary.
"We have the Deadly Deer Camp," she said. "And it's a scary one."
"We'll also have the archaeology room," she said. "It's not scary."
So how does one escape from an escape room?
"We lock you in," she said. "Then you have to find clues in the room to unlock the door."
After an hour, if the group in the room is still locked in, they're let out.
"It's strictly for fun," she said. "You can get friends and coworkers together to work on team skills."
The cost for the Escape Night is $25 per person over 13. $12.50 for 12 and under. Times can be booked online through the Fort's Facebook page.
Friday hours are noon to 7 p.m. Saturday hours are also noon to 7 p.m.
Another event featuring survival is coming up on Oct. 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. when A Night at the Museum pits visitors against the hardships of the frontier.
"You have to find clues to see if you survive," Mackay said.
Each visitor is given a "passport" with their name, age and a list of losses and wins. Losses are challenges such as having cholera or not being able to speak English. Wins are things that would have helped someone on the frontier.
Acting Director Laura Crowl said the event will let visitors meet some folks from the past.
"We'll have Mary Williams and a few of the other village folks," she said. "She was the daughter of William Williams."
There's also an obstacle course and less than honest law enforcement.
"They can bribe the sheriff to get out of the obstacle course," she said.
Refreshments will be available, too.
Tickets are $10 for adults. $5 for those aged 5 to 13.
The Fort Museum and Frontier Village will also be hosting an upcoming event for seventh through eighth grade students.
The Teen Dance is on Friday, Oct. 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $6.
"It's a Halloween themed dance with a costume contest," Crowl said.
The idea came from Katie Delaney.
"She's one of our regular volunteers," she said.
Crowl said the event will have plenty of adult supervision. Soda and snacks will be available.
For those less inclined to dance, on Nov. 10 a cake decorating class will be held in the Opera House hosted by Hummingbird Confections.
"You can book a spot through Hummingbird," Crowl said.
