Pedestrian dies crossing 169 Sunday night

HUMBOLDT – A pedestrian has died after the Iowa State Patrol said he was struck by a Jeep while walking across U.S. Highway 169 Sunday.

The state patrol identified the man as Olaf Engman, 61, of Humboldt.

According to the Iowa State Patrol’s accident report, Engman was walking across 169 north of Fourth Avenue North around 11 p.m. Sunday.

While crossing, Celeste Reilly, 54, of Humboldt, was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler southbound in the inside lane. The state patrol said she did not see Engman until he was in the roadway, and the front corner of the Jeep struck him.

He was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
