The Webster County supervisors took the next step in replacing the Webster County attorney after receiving five applications for the position.
The board officially placed the applications on file Tuesday at its regular meeting. Now a subcommittee will look those over to bring back a recommendation, said Supervisor Mark Campbell.
Campbell said judges will be involved in the review process.
The board will have a hearing Jan. 30 to appoint a new county attorney.
Former Webster County Attorney Jennifer Benson's last day in office was Sunday. Benson was elected in 2014 after formerly serving as the first assistant county attorney. She was up for re-election this year.

Also on Tuesday the supervisors approved purchase of three new trucks for the county's roads department.
Webster County Engineer Randy Will said nearly a year ago, there was discussion about replacing some of the county's aging fleet. Seven of the tandem dump trucks were 16 to 18 years old, and six had some significant rust jacking.
Two bids from Fort Dodge dealers were received in April 2017 for the trucks. The low bid was from Rees Truck and Trailer, for $222,012 per truck, or $666,036 total.
These are heavy duty Mack trucks, each with dump body, front plow, rear wing, box vibrator, tailgate sander and underbody blade, Will said.
"Last April you approved the purchase of three trucks from Rees, and I'm coming to you today to request you approve the purchase of three more trucks from Rees," Will said. "This is basically an extension of their proposal from last March, April."
The last truck will not be in service until the end of November, he said.
The current fiscal year ends on July 30.
Salaries proposed
Salary recommendations for Webster County's elected officials were received by the Webster County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
The proposals are made by the Webster County Compensation Board and are subject to the Board of Supervisors' approval.
Raises of 2.5 percent were recommended for all offices, for total salary recommendations of:
• Supervisor: $37,691
• Supervisor chair: $38,769
• Sheriff: $90,071
• Auditor, treasurer, recorder: $68,103
• Attorney: $106,651
