Complaint made about adult bookstore in FD

A Fort Dodge man told the City Council Monday that he believes underage young people have been allowed into an adult bookstore downtown.

Joe Sullens also said he was told by a police dispatcher that the situation was a low priority and no officers would be sent to check it out.

Sullens told the council that he wants the Mini Cinema on the City Square to be “scrutinized and looked at.”

“I am very concerned about the placement of this particular business,” he said.

He said on one occasion he believed four underaged youths were allowed into the store. He said when he called the police, he was told no officer would be sent.

“That did happen and it has been corrected,” Police Chief Kevin Doty said.

He said an officer will be dispatched to the store in response to any such complaints in the future.

He added that officers could randomly check the store just like they check bars.

No one addressed the council on behalf of the Mini Cinema.
