Ruth Tomlinson

A Fort Dodge woman is facing a felony charge after she allegedly defrauded more than $1,500 from her employer.

Ruth L. Tomlinson, 21, is charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, and three counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, all aggravated misdemeanors.

According to the criminal complaint, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office, Tomlinson, while employed at Younkers, 217 S. 25th St., allegedly defrauded $1,561.85 from the store throughout the time she worked there.

She’s accused of charging unauthorized charges to customer credit cards.

Tomlinson also allegedly voided a transaction and walked out of the store with the property in November 2016.

The complaint stated that Tomlinson was also seen taking cash from the register, totaling $141.48.

It’s further alleged that she charged transactions on three separate customer credit cards, totaling $1,050.

Tomlinson, who made her initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning, told Magistrate William Thatcher that she is no longer employed at Younkers.

Thatcher allowed Tomlinson to be released from jail on her own recognizance, but also issued a no-contact order between her and Younkers.

Her case was transferred to Webster County District Court, where an arraignment will be scheduled at a later date.
