Fire starts in car

-Messenger photo by Chad Thompson Fort Dodge firefighters Mike Wiltzius, left, and Jon Schreck stand on scene after extinguishing a car fire at 1502 D St. W. Wednesday night. The car reportedly caught fire while inside the garage of the home, according to Capt. Steve Teske, of the Fort Dodge Fire Department. The owner of the car, Garret Armstrong, had done some mechanical work on the vehicle earlier in the day. The doors were left open on the car while he worked on it. Later, when an attempt was made to jump start it, the car backfired and caused an explosion under the hood. The car was put in neutral and pushed out of the garage before firefighters put the fire out. Firefighters were on scene for less than 20 minutes.
