Bills gets probation

Colten Bills has been sentenced to probation after he was convicted of two counts homicide by vehicle by reckless driving, both class C felonies.

Chief District Court Judge Kurt Wilke sentenced Bills, 21, of Dayton, Monday morning in Webster County District Court.

Wilke had previously ruled that Bills had been texting on May 8, 2015, when he ran a stop sign and crashed his pickup truck into a car, killing David Castenson, 56, of Harcourt, and his mother, Velma Castenson, 85, of Dayton.

During the hearing, Bills tearfully apologized for his actions to the Castenson family.
