Police investigate possible shooting in Webster City

WEBSTER CITY — An unidentified man was taken to Van Diest Medical Center Tuesday evening following an incident that may have involved a firearm in the 900 block of Division Street.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Webster City police and Van Diest Medical Center were dispatched to 914 Division St. for a man who was unconscious and bleeding from the head, according to scanner traffic.Soon after, officers were told the incident involved a “10-32” — a gun, according to scanner traffic.

Officers at the scene reported via scanner that the situation was an emergency. A call was put out for more emergency medical personnel and a second ambulance responded. Officers called for an air ambulance, but were told by the dispatcher that “no bird” was available and that “LifeFlight cannot fly.”

Later in the evening, crime scene tape had been put up at the home.

“The Police Department is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of this matter. The initial investigation indicates the public is not in danger from this isolated incident,” according to Chief Shiloh Mork. He said in a statement that the police department is urging the public to refrain from buying into posts on social media of multiple shootings and fatalities.

“These are baseless posts and not consistent with the incident,” he said.

Additional information is not being released at this time to ensure the integrity of the investigation, Mork said.

According to the Hamilton County assessor’s website, the rental home is owned by Ivan Pigsley.

The Iowa State Patrol, Webster City Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, and Van Diest Medical Center responded.
