Busy week for St. Edmond
The St. Edmond boys and girls basketball teams finally hit the court inside the renovated Gael gym here Tuesday night.
Up first will be a non-North Central Conference doubleheader with Southeast Valley beginning at 6 p.m.
From there, St. Edmond heads to Jewell on Thursday to take on South Hamilton before returning home Friday for league action with Iowa Falls-Alden.
In an 81-54 win last week over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Gael (1-0 overall, 1-0 in NCC) seniors Hunter Horn and Carson Bargfrede combined for 55 points, as Horn finished with 28 and 12 rebounds with five assists and four blocks.
Bargfrede knocked down six 3-pointers, as Ty Mericle had eight points with a pair of triples. Jakob Koopman grabbed 11 rebounds and had three steals while Jack McElroy dished out seven assists.
Southeast Valley (1-1) owns a 75-43 win over West Bend-Mallard and lost a heartbreaker to defending Class 1A state champion Madrid, 54-53. Bryce Harrison leads the team with 15 points, as Casey Hanson is averaging 10.5 and Ian Brunner nine.
Logan Jaeschke is averaging 10.5 rebounds and five assists per game for the Jaguars.
South Hamilton (0-3) has dropped games to Nevada, Iowa Falls-Alden and South Central Calhoun. Luke Martensen leads the team at eight points per game while Benjamin Swenson adds 5.3 and 6.3 rebounds.
Iowa Falls-Alden (1-1, 0-0) rebounded from a 54-35 loss to West Marshall to best the Hawks, 55-52. Karsen kalous averages 16.5 points and Collin Pieper 11.5 per game.
The Gael girls (1-1, 1-0) dominated Clarion-Goldfield/Dows last week, 47-7, after dropping a tough decision on the road to third-ranked (1A) Bishop Garrigan.
Chloe Palmer, Anna Lursen and Abby Huss are all averaging over eight points per game for St. Edmond, as Eden Horn had a double-double in her first varsity game as a freshman. Horn did not play vs. the Cowgirls.
For the Jaguars (1-2), Camryn Lane averages a team-high 15 points and Sage Lane leads with nearly seven rebounds and two assists per game.
The Hawks (1-2) earned a 20-point lead over South Central Calhoun but have lost to Iowa Falls-Alden and Nevada since. Emma Lammers averages 11 points and Tessa Skartvedt eight with nine rebounds.
The Cadets (1-2, 0-0) are paced by Elody England, as the sophomore averages nearly 16 points a night. Danika Rieks adds eight points and just under 12 rebounds.
