Twin Lakes Conference honors handed out

Courtney Darrow was named co-Twin Lakes Conference coach of the year for softball this past summer after leading Newell-Fonda to a share of the league crown.

Kierra Jungers, Kinzee Hinders, McKenna Sievers, Isabel Bartek and Anna Mercer all made the first team for the Mustangs, who finished 9-1 alongside Sioux Central.

Darrow is a Fort Dodge Senior High graduate who also played at Iowa Central.

Pocahontas Area’s Addie Lawson and Jacalyn Sobotka, Southeast Valley’s Chloe Lambert and Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany were among those named first-team.

Second team selections included Lauren Hoover, Samantha Wolter, Amanda Davis and Katie Rierson from Pocahontas Area; Jamie Pierce of East Sac County; Ellie Nolte from Southeast Valley; Rilynn Lawman and Alyssa Richman of Manson Northwest Webster; and Southeast Valley’s Jordyn Rowley.

Mylie Hinders and Ellie Sievers from Newell-Fonda; Rian Schlief of Southeast Valley; Jen Aschinger and Anna McCollough of East Sac County; Evelyn Droste and Ella Shannon from Manson Northwest Webster; Ella Auten and Megan Dunlap of Emmetsburg; and Jayci Graeve of South Central Calhoun were honorable mention picks.

The all-Twin Lakes Conference baseball teams were also released recently, with seven area players making the first team.

Caydin Anderson of Manson Northwest Webster was among those, as Newell-Fonda’s Max Carlson and Mason Hoberman, West Bend-Mallard’s Houston Nielsen, Pocahontas Area’s Hunter Trewyn, South Central Calhoun’s Andrew Anderson and Bradyn Burns of East Sac County joined him.

Earning second team status were Brooks Bellcock and Ty Tauber of Newell-Fonda; Justin Wirtz, Carson Baak, Gavin Swanson, Bronson Dietrich and Cameron Madden of Emmetsburg; Mitch Stevens and Carson Schneider from West Bend-Mallard; Kaden Dorman of South Central Calhoun; Karter Ludwig from East Sac County; and Hane Sorenson of Southeast Valley.

Trevor Tauber and Broc Wilken of Newell-Fonda; Blake Bunda and Trevor Stuhrenberg from Pocahontas Area; MJ Bay of Emmetsburg; Casey Hanson from Southeast Valley; Caleb Juhl, Brock Nattress and Cooper Nattress from South Central Calhoun; Carter Erritt of East Sac County; Tyler Hansen from West Bend-Mallard; and Mason Anderson of Manson Northwest Webster landed on the third.
